Terms of use
Last updated 2026-11-04. This instance is run by Jack Hale. Contact: ours.astride300@passmail.net.
These terms are an agreement between you and the operator named above for using this instance of Ours. They are short on purpose. The software itself is licensed separately under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 or later, and you may run your own copy.
The service
- Ours is free. There are no paid plans, ads or data sales.
- It is run on a best-effort basis by volunteers. It may change, pause or end. If we plan to shut this instance down we will give at least 60 days' notice so you can export your data.
- Each account has fair-use limits on storage, spaces and devices so the service stays free for everyone. The app tells you if you reach one.
Your responsibilities
- You must be 16 or older.
- Keep your recovery phrase safe. If you lose every device and your phrase, your data cannot be recovered by anyone, including us. This is how the encryption protects you.
- Only invite someone to your space who has agreed to share it with you.
- Don't use Ours to break the law, to harm or monitor another person without their agreement, or to attack or overload the service.
Your content
What you write is yours. We claim no rights to it, and because it is encrypted we cannot read it. You give us only the permission needed to store and transmit the encrypted data so the service works.
Ending your use
You can delete your account at any time from Settings in the app. We may suspend an account that is abusing the service or putting it at risk, and accounts inactive for 13 months are deleted after an email warning at 12 months.
No warranty
The service is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We are not liable for lost data, missed plans or indirect losses, to the extent the law allows. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by agreement.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Changes
We will tell you in the app before a change to these terms takes effect. Every version is kept in the public source history.
